 Did you know that animals have their own advocacy ribbon? It’s official, and it’s orange! Registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office , the Orange Ribbon for Animals is the official awareness ribbon for at-risk animals. "At-risk" refers to animals whose lives are in danger or discomfort, whether they are in an animal shelter, stray on the street, suffering from abuse or neglect, or are threatened in any way. Our Orange Ribbon projects include: Animal Guardian -- recognizing Animal Guardians everywhere: Rational Animal promotes guardianship not ownership of animals. Our pet dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes all depend on us for survival and a happy, comfortable life. We don't need to treat our pets like people but we need to regard them as a member of the family who depends on us while also providing companionship, love, and gratitude. Your first step as an animal guardian could be adopting from a shelter or rescue group. In addition, wildlife now rely on humans for protection and conservation. You can be a wildlife animal guardian by speaking out against hunting and trapping and taking steps to preserve the shrinking habitats of the animals with whom we are all sharing the planet. Save.Care.Love. -- humane education and public awareness: Save lives by adopting from shelters and rescue groups. Care for animals by spaying/neutering and vaccinating. Love and protect your animals for their entire lifetime. Rational Animal celebrated the conclusion of our 10-week after-school program at the Bronx School of Science Inquiry & Investigation. Fifteen 6th grade girls learned the principles of the Orange Ribbon for Animals Save.Care.Love. campaign, met animals at Manhattan's AC&C shelter, learned about spay/neuter from AC&C's vet and spay/neuter surgeon, Dr. Yvonne Szacki, and much more.
